On Easter Monday, motorcycle road racer, truck fitter, speed addict and all round good bloke Guy Martin will attempt to conquer what he describes as “the biggest thing we’ve ever done:” to set a new world speed record for the Wall of Death feat – and it’s to be broadcast on live television!
Twenty-three times Isle of Man TT winner John McGuinness will shortly kick-start his 2016 racing season on board the same line-up of machinery that he rode last year: the Honda HRC Superbike for the road race Internationals, the Jackson Racing Superstock ‘Blade for his World Endurance Championship duties (and their CBR600 for Supersport road races), his own Superstock bike with EMC2 backing on the roads and the Honda Shinden Mugen electric bike for TT Zero.
Johnny Rea has become Northern Ireland’s first motorcycle world champ since Joey Dunlop’s F1 championship and Brian Reid’s double TT F2 titles in 1986 – and he achieved it two rounds before the end of the WSBK season! In his post race celebrations in Jerez, Rea paid tribute to Reid and Dunlop by wearing their helmets. In Joey’s case, it was his actual helmet from 1986 that his son Gary had sent JR – the families are that well connected.
